Quinteto “El Boleo”
“El Boleo” is a quintet specialized in Argentinean Tango created with the aim of exploring and spreading the music from Buenos Aires. These musicians of the highest level have developped a solid experience through the years in the European and Argentinean scène, where they have performed regularly with varied professional ensembles. The most beautiful tunes from all times are offered with an authentic traditional style which comes as a result of the mastering of tango’s five key instruments: bandoneon, piano, violin, guitar and double-bass.
Bárbara Varassi Pega, piano, Argentina
She got a piano degree at Instituto Provincial del Profesorado de Música, Argentina. She has specialized in Argentinian Tango with Maestro Javier Martínez Lo Re. She has been part of Orquesta Juvenil de Tango del IPPM, Orquesta de la Universidad Nacional de Rosario, Buenos Aires Tango International Company, Estilo Tango orchestra, Tango del Callejón trio, La Mano quintet, giving concerts in Italy, Germany, France, Spain, Algeria, Austria and Switzerland. She has co-directed Baruyo ensemble as pianist and arranger . In 2000 she won a scholarship to pursue further piano studies in Giuseppe Verdi Music Conservatory, Milan, Italy, where she obtained a piano degree in 2003. Also in Italy she created Quinteto de Tango Invisible. Nowadays, she is also part of “El Escape” quartet and “Septetoscopio” septet, and has completed a Master in Argentinian Tango at Codarts University with Maestro Gustavo Beytelmann. She has also participated with “Gotan Project” in their last CD, in two orchestral versions.
Virgillio Monty, Double Bass, Italy
He got a double-bass degree at Giuseppe Verdi Music Conservatory, Milan, Italy, with Maestro Cosmo. He has participated in several specialization and interpretation courses, one of them with Maestro A. Boccini. He has collaborated in different chamber music ensembles such as L’Ensemble Amadeus and L’Orchestra Gomez and symphony orchestras such as L’Orchestra Europea, L’Orchestra del Conservatorio G. Verdi and L’Orchestra dell’Universitá Statale di Milano. Apart from classical music, he also works with other styles, including popular and light music. He has participated in numerous festivals and musical seasons. He is part of Quinteto de Tango Invisible and Estilo Tango orchestra. He has also studied Music therapy at Lecco School, Italy. . Nowadays, he is also part of “El Escape” quartet and “Septetoscopio” septet. He has also participated with “Gotan Project” in their last CD, in two orchestral versions.
Matias Pedrana, bandoneon, Argentina
He began his musical studies at the age 13. At age18 he entered the National University of Rosario to study flute and four years later he graduated from the faculty of music with high marks. During this period and after graduation he participated in numerous ensembles as well as a soloist.
In the year 2000 he move to Europe to continue his career as a musician. In 2004 he was admitted at “Codarts”, Hogeschool voor de KunstenAdres:, Rotterdam, to study Bandoneon under the tutelage of Victor Villena and Leo Vervelde. He graduated from the tango department in 2008.
Since 2004 he has performed as a Bandoneon player with many ensembles like “Orquesta tipica Guardia Cadenera”, “Septetoscopio”, “Mabel Rivero”, “Kay Sleking”, “Reflejo Urbano”, “Tango de Barrio”, “Motion Unlimited Orchestra”, “Gelders Orchestra”, “Nueva Manteca” trough all Europe, South-America and Scandinavia. He has participated in the CD “Gotan Project Live” (2008), as a guest musician (Bonus track: “Santa Maria” and “Diferente”) – Ya Basta! records.
Alvaro Rovira Ruiz, guitar, Argentina
Studied guitar jazz and argentinian music in Buenos Aires, Argentina at the Escuela de Música Contemporánea (E.M.C.-Berklee Internacional Network) between 1999 and 2001. Then he learned “Tango Guitar” with the Master Hugo Romero and Classical guitar technique with Liliana Ardizonne. Until 2006, he lived in Buenos Aires performing tango and other popular music styles. Between 2004 and 2005 he played guitar in the tango quartet “Tango Desatado” recording one CD and performing two tours through Austria, Switzerland, Germany and Netherland. In 2005 and 2006, he directed Latin American and Tango guitar workshops at the “Musik Hoch Schule” Muenster, Germany. In this period he also performed solo guitar concerts and with the tango trio Matecito at different tango clubs and places of cultural interest in Germany. Now, he is living in Rotterdam performing in different tango projects and studying in the Rotterdam Conservatorium Latin Jazz and Brazilian guitar.
